Holi is one of the
oldest and major festivals of India. Holi is a festival that
is widely celebrated
by Hindus. It is
celebrated yearly with great fun, joy and passion on the day of full moon in
the Hindu month of Phalguna (February or early March) for two days.
Festival of holi
celebrated with special names and traditions in different states. But sprit of
joy and fun remains the same all over. Holi
is generally a
public holiday Banks, schools
and colleges and
offices are closed
on that day.
Holika Dahan
Celebration:
On the evening of the
first day of Holi, people gather at important chowk and light huge bonfires,
this ritual is called Holika Dahan. The
Days Before festival the People Start gathering wood produced for lighting of
the bonfire moment. Holika puja and Holika
Dahan Muhurta is very important for burn the Holi. Merry youngsters sang and
danced round the fire.
It has a religious origin. Hindus
believe that Holika an evil
woman tried to
burn Prahlad a
true devotee of God.
But Prahlad was
saved by God and
Holika was burnt
to ashes. Hindus
rejoice over the
victory of Prahlad. The burning of Holika is
celebrated as Holi.
Special preparation of
food for holi:
Many Women start making
early preparations for the holi festival as they cook special meals for this
time. On This Festival, People enjoy with many kinds of Drinks like Specially Thandai
and Bhang.
Festival of Colors:
Holi is the celebration
of color, fun, and play music and dance. Early in the morning people assemble
in the chowk with packet of dry colour in their hands. People visited every
house where they were welcomed with gulal and served with sweet. People
throwing and applying colored powder (gulal), colored water on friends and
family, which gives the holiday its common name "Festival of Colors". Holi
is truly a
festival of the
common man.
All
alike, great and small enjoy Holi. No
person is respected.
Anyone who passes
through the streets
is sprayed with
colour. So this
festival makes all equal.
No distinction is
observed on account
of wealth or
social position.This festival of color brings all people together and
removes social gaps between rich and poor, young and old, employees and
employers, men and women.
A common word heard during Holi is: “Bura Na Mano,
Holi hai”.
Now a day’s everybody wishes
to swap greeting message and wishes from their loved ones.
